Let’s talk about family. What role does it play in each person’s life?

Вариант Does your family play an important role in your life?
Family are people who are close to you and will always support you. Few people are lucky enough to have friends who are as reliable as relatives but those who you have known since childhood will never let you down. I firmly believe that family plays an important role in each person’s life though someone is unable to understand it while he is in his teens.

2. Do you have your own family traditions?

Family traditions are the things we do as members of a family. They are very important as they create specific memories which form our personality when we grow up. Nowadays people always hurry up to keep up with the others. They even don’t have enough free time to eat in the evening just to enjoy the time they spend together. In our family we have a tradition to eat out once a month. We go to some cafe to have fun and celebrate something. While going to some place we usually switch off our mobile phones as nobody can disturb us. It gives some sense of unity.

3. What will you ask your British friend about his/her family?

Вариант If you meet a British teenager what questions would you like to ask them about their family.
1. Do you have a close relationship with all your relatives?
2. What are you grateful to your parents for?
3. What do you like doing together with your relatives?

4. What can you advise people who want to have a close and happy family?

Вариант Can you give some pieces of advice to a person who wants to have a close-knit and happy family?
Some people say that if you want to have a friend, be a friend. If you want to have a close and happy family you should do your best to make all the members of it happy. They don’t ask for much. You should respect their feelings and look after them when they are ill. If you do something wrong you should apologise to them.

5. They say that parents and children have difficulties understanding each other because of the generation gap. What do you think about this problem?

To my mind the root of the evil lies in the fact that teenagers and their parents don’t want to admit that kids are ready for making their own decisions and parents are still responsible for their kids’ actions. Parents should trust their kids more. Teenagers should show more respect to their parents’ point of view. Any problem can be worked out if both sides look for solutions.

Ниже приведены вопросы, которые предлагаются в рамках темы Let’s talk about family в других школах в РБ.

Why are there many one-parent families? How does the state help such families?

It’s rather difficult to find out why a married couple decides to split up. They both tend to blame each other. Asking personal questions is not recommended. Our state helps such families as much as it can. Bank loans are given at a lower rate in comparison to other families. Single working mothers may be provided with additional days off. Everything is done at someone’s else expense. You shouldn’t expect too much.

Are you on good terms with your parents and grandparents?

I try to do so. We, teenagers, are often noisy and worry about the things which are not important to our parents. Both sides are sometimes more sensitive than sensible. If one of the sides calms down,it may end peacefully. It always takes patience to sort out some misunderstanding.

Nowadays an average family has one child. From your point of view, how many children should there be in a family?

I have always dreamt of having a brother or a sister. Grown-ups often don’t understand kids. We see the world from different points. Our life experience is different. If I had a brother or a sister I would have someone whose ideas are like mine. We would be able to share our secrets and work out solutions to our childish problems.

Why is family important for you?

Family are the people who you have known all your life. You know what to expect from them. This gives you a sense of stability as they will never led you down and you can rely on them for help and support in any situation.

Are there any things that you do with your parents together?

Unfortunately, no. Our interests and hobbies are different. We like doing different things. Having something in common I mean a common activity to be involved in will give me a lot of pleasure.

What is family for you?

My family is very important to me. They are a safe place for me in the world full of strangers. They help and support me and expect me to do so when I grow up and they become too old. They look after me now, I will do the same in return.
