1. Let’s talk about family. What role does it play in each person’s life?

Вариант What is the role of a family in each person’s life?
Well. Family is very important for everyone since when we are among the dearest and nearest we pick up some useful habits and learn how to deal with other people. At schools we are taught something about the world around us, but only at home do we gain a better understanding of human nature. Being successful at school and university leads to becoming a true specialist in some sphere, but it does not necessarily mean that you will grow up as a nice person. You can have a pleasant conversation with someone who is not a college graduate, but you will definitely refuse to have a word with an arrogant university professor. While talking to others we need sympathy, not an entry from an encyclopedia. As I stated above, family is the only place where we can turn into good people that’s why I firmly believe that family does play a significant role in each person’s life.

2. Do you have your own family traditions?

Having something in common unites people and the same goes to family traditions. My family is an ordinary one and I wouldn’t say that our family traditions are different from those in other families. We like having dinner together especially after a long day either at school or at work. We can talk through our problems and seek solutions to them.

3. What will you ask your British friend about his/her family?

Your parents are your true friends, aren’t they? Are there any forbidden topics about which you can’t talk with your parents? If you are in trouble, who do you turn to: your mother or father?

4. What can you advise people who want to have a close and happy family?

Everyone dreams about having a close and happy family. Unfortunately, the recipe for it is unknown. If something works for one family, it may not be suitable in another one. On second thoughts, I suppose that being sensitive to the needs of others is the key to success. Always pay attention to what other people have to say and don’t expect too much from others. Some say practise what you preach. Moralizing won’t do good anyway. Do set an example for others.

5. They say that parents and children have difficulties understanding each other because of the generation gap. What do you think about this problem?

To my mind, it exists in people’s minds. Nowadays parents are well aware of most technological advances. Very few teenagers can boast of being better than their parents in this respect. The latter may not tell the difference between different makes of mobile phones, but they understand the ideas behind them. Leaving out the novelties of the era, our parents used to have the same problems  as we have now. They went to school 15 years ago, we go to school now. This is where the difference ends. Teachers have always been strict, haven’t they?  The same is true when it comes to other problems are brought up for discussion.

Дополнительные вопросы к теме Let’s talk about family.

1. Most families prefer to have one child or two children nowadays. In your opinion, should there be one or more children in a family?

I am perfectly sure that there should be two children in each family. When a child has a brother or a sister he learns how to communicate with other kids. He understands that there is another child in the family and he has to learn to share things and their parents attention. Children learn to help each other in different situations. It happens when parents are sensible and don’t make their kids win their attention. Some people say that it is rather expensive to provide two children with what they need. To begin with, many things children ask for are not really necessary. When you know that you have no money to waste you make sure your things last longer.

2. What questions will you ask a British teenager about her/his relatives?

1. Have you got many relatives?
2. Have you got any aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces?
3. How often do you visit your distant relatives?
