Билет 12 Let’s talk about national cuisine of an English-speaking country

Этот билет (Let’s talk about national cuisine of an English-speaking country) во многом повторяет содержание предыдущего, хотя и, на мой взгляд, прилично отличается от традиционного изложения темы Food in Britain На мой взгляд, данный подход очень щадящий  по отношению к нагрузкам, которые приходится детям испытывать в выпускных классах.

1. Now let’s talk about the food. What do people eat in Britain?

People of different nationalities live in Britain. They mostly eat meals which can’t be regarded as traditional British food. Even most Britons prefer Indian curry or dishes from Chinese cuisine to what is said to be British traditional food. Some say that some 50 years ago a British traditional breakfast consisted of bacon and eggs, sausages and fried tomato. However, I am not sure whether it is the case now. The only thing which can’t be doubted is that fish and chips is the most popular take-away food in Britain.

2.Do you personally follow the rules of a healthy way of life? Why (not)?

Everyone knows that it is wise to do so, but I think that it is boring to do the same things with no variation. From time to time I treat myself to breaking rules. For instance I may stay up late, if there is something interesting on. The Internet has a lot to offer, but not every thing can be found on it. Some old movies are not easy to find in good quality. On saturday morning I sleep longer than usual and don’t do exercise. As for food, I have a sweet tooth and I like chocolate, though I am fully aware that it is not regarded as healthy food.

3.What questions can you ask a British friend about their national cuisine?

1.What is your favourite national dish?
2.Can you cook it yourself?
3.Is there any national dish you wouldn’t recommend me to try?

4.What national dishes can you recommend a tourist to taste in Belarus?

To my mind the most recognisable symbol of Belorussian cuisine is dranniki. To bake my recommendation better I would add sour cream and mushrooms. Our overall fondness of lard is a popular myth. Beetroot soup should go after it. Many people are fond of it, as for me I am much less fond of it than others. As for a drink, I would recommend sbiten which is made of water, honey and spices.

5.Scientists say that fast food is unhealthy but teenagers can’t stop eating it. What do you think about it?

Unhealthy eating habits is a problem though many people fail to understand its importance. It’s is rather surprising how many people find it tasty. Fast food is usually of rather low quality otherwise it wouldn’t be cheap. The problem does exist and usual ways of solving it have proved to be ineffective. People seem to go deaf when you talk to them that they endanger their lives by eating fast food.

Дополнительные вопросы к Let’s talk about national cuisine of an English-speaking country

Scientists say that having lunch at school is a must, but a lot of pupils refuse to have meals at school. What is your idea of this problem?

I am afraid that it is a real problem. A car can’t run when there is no fuel. It starts malfunctioning. The same is true about brains with little or no food. Pupils can’t concentrate on something for a long time and suffer from memory losses because of insufficient nutrition.

Scientists say that fast food is unhealthy but English people go on eating it. What do you think about it?

To my mind, grown ups fully understand what is good and what is bad. You can hardly influence them. Children are those who cause the greatest concern. Unless they are told about the problems fast food cause, they may become grown ups who are unaware of healthy alternatives to the things they got used to.
