1. Let’s talk about Belarusian customs and traditions. What can you tell me about your favourite Belarusian holiday?

Children have always liked holidays as schools are closed on these days. Winter holidays are my favourite ones as they are the longest. The best part of winter holidays is New Year. This holiday is celebrated all over the world in almost the same way. People all over the world do the same things: decorate some tree, have a festive dinner and have a good time with their friends and relatives. There is nothing special about the holiday but I like it anyway.

2. Would you like to take part in a British holiday celebration? Why?

I am eager to take part in a British holiday celebration. It is like living another life. I want to participate in a pancake race. It is so unusual to run with a frying pan. I can’t imagine such an event to take place in Belarus. People run to have fun. None is crazy about winning such a competition.

3. What questions can you ask a British teenager about his/her birthday celebration?

How do you celebrate your birthday? What did you get as presents on your last birthday? What is your idea of a perfect birthday?

4.What holiday celebration in Belarus will you recommend your British friend?

I think that my British friend will be interested into something which is unusual so our traditional holidays will be interesting. I’d advise him to come and see such holidays as Kalyady, Maslenitsa, Kupala Night. All of them related to beliefs of our ancestors. On the Kupala people collect herbs and flowers to make wreaths. Kalyady is a ritual with maskers and songs.
Maslenitsa is famous for making and eating pancakes.

5.Do you think it is important to follow our grandparents’ traditions? Why?

Old people always have what to say, so it is a good idea to take them into consideration. We shouldn’t blindly follow their ideas but it is worth thinking over.  Traditions are not the same. Our world is rapidly changing and that’s why you had better have a fresh look at everything.
Sense of community is important, but we are citizens of the world, not only part of it.

Дополняем тему Let’s talk about Belarusian customs and traditions вопросами найденными в интернете.

1. Are you proud of our national holidays and traditions?

National holidays and traditions can tell us about the past of the nation. I wouldn’t say that our holidays are different from those of our neighbours, but they are colurful and reflect our personality.

2. What national souvenirs will you recommend a tourist to buy in Belarus?

I think that a souvenir is the thing which shows peculiarity of the place where it is bought. Something made of flax will be the best souvenir I can think of. Maybe a national costume will be the best souvenir possible.

3. Do you find some British holidays and traditions special? Why (not)?

In general, all holidays are all about having fun, eating and drinking. British holidays are time when people don’t have to work and may have a good time. The same goes to any holiday all over the world. The difference is little.

4. What national souvenirs would you buy in Britain?

I would buy the miniature model of a red bus in London. It will remind me of my tour around the capital. The other thing I would definitely buy is a bagpipe. As for me, It is a true symbol of Scotland.

5. Nowadays more and more people are getting interested in customs and traditions of different countries. What do you think about it?

It is good when a person is interested in something. There are so many people who are crazy about stupid things like social networks. If a person is keen on something related to culture and history it is even better. They make him clever and tolerant. I approve of their interest of customs and traditions of different countries.
