1. Let’s talk about customs and traditions of an English-speaking country. What can you tell me about your favourite holiday in Britain?

I am fond of fire. It is so beautiful in my fireplace. I can sit in front of it for hours. My favourite holiday in Britain is Bonfire night. Its celebration is full of fireworks and bonfires. I find it interesting. The celebration is bright and funny. Other holidays are similar to ours and less exciting.

2. Do you find some British customs and traditions special? Why (not)?

Britain is full of culture and traditions which are famous all over the world. When people think of Britain they often think about drinking tea, eating fish and chips. I don’t think that the way the British prepare tea is more complex than the Chinese’s one. I think that nowadays people don’t have much spare time to spend on making a cup of tea. As for eating fish and chips, I think that fast food is not good in any form. We had better avoid it.

3. What questions can you ask a British teenager about his/her birthday celebration?

What would you like to have as a present for your next birthday? Where would you like to have your next birthday party?

4.What holiday celebration in Belarus will you recommend your British friend?

I believe that Kalyady, Maslenitsa, Kupala Night are true Belorussian holidays and he will undoubtedly find them interesting. All of them are related to religious beliefs of our ancestors which go as far as hundreds of years. It is like a journey to our distant past. On the Kupala people often look for the flower of a fern. Those who will succeed in doing it are expected to be lucky. Kalyady is all about dressing up and going from home to home to ask for food or money. When you think about Maslenitsa, you think about pancakes. They are the soul of this holiday.

5.Do you think it is important to follow our grandparents’ traditions? Why?

Though I love my grandparents I will never put on clothes they used to wear. The world has changed a little for the last 50 years, hasn’t it? We can’t rely on their experience when we talk about almost everything. Keeping grandparents’ traditions gives people a sense of unity by creating a closed community. We are children of the world and we should broaden our horizons and don’t limit our understanding of the world around us to the grandparents’.

Providing you have a lot of money, you may simply hire specialists from an agency. They will make sure that everything will be ok. If you do it on your own, you will have to rack your brains. To begin with you need to find a suitable place where it will take place. Then you should make up a menu and take into consideration all the food preferences of your guests. It is a good thing to create a location map of your guests around the table. Some of them may not get on well with each other. After that you are expected to decide on kinds of entertainment. If your party may last till the dead of the night, you should think of the best means of getting them home. If you miss one of the steps while getting ready for a party you may various problems like bored guests and upset stomachs of theirs.
