1. Let’s talk about education. What can you tell me about the system of education in Belarus?

Education in Belarus is free and compulsory from age 7 to 16. From age 7 to 11 children attend primary school where they learn how to read and write. They study basics of essential subjects. From 16 to 18 pupils do their best to get a good knowledge of numerous subjects. After leaving school you may try to enter a university or a college.

2. Do you agree that Belarusian secondary school provides a person with good knowledge? Why (not)?

Belarusian secondary school gives a chance to get a good knowledge of the basics of any science. Teachers know a lot about the subjects they teach. They are always ready to help a pupil to cope with a problem he /she has. Textbooks are well written and you can find a lot of information by reading them. If you want to learn something new and useful, you can do it at school if you try to follow teachers’ instructions.

3. Ask a British teenager about his/her school.

Do you like attending your school? What do you you like about your school? What are your favourite subjects?

4. What can you advise a student who is not a very good at languages to do to achieve better results ?

If you want to achieve any good results you have to concentrate on  it. You can’t become an expert in something if you fail to study a subject of your choice more than one hour per day. If you want to know something you should learn it by heart. Memorising something is the only way to succeed in learning. Read out what you need and write it down. Revision is also important. All people tend to forget the material which is not used on a daily basis.

5. Today some young people think that having a good education is not very important. Do you agree with them?

Вариант Some teenagers suppose that education is not very important. Do you agree with them?
Education has always been important and I am sure that it will always be important. Success may be gained in different ways and it is not necessary that being smart and having a good education is the shortest one. I have no doubt that a person with no education will not interest me as a friend. Having a lot of money doesn’t make a person interesting enough to have a conversation.

А теперь можно перейти и к вопросам по теме Let’s talk about education , которые предлагаются в других ГУО:

1. What can you tell me about studying at school?

Some lessons are interesting, but others are boring. Some teachers try to entertain you whereas others make you learn everything by heart. It is cool to have fun at school, but without hard work you achieve nothing and fail your exams. Unless you concentrate on your studies you will make little progress. In general, school is ok.

2. Ask me whether I liked school when I was a pupil.

What school did you go to? What were your favourite subjects? Did you have good memories about your school?

3. What ideas from Belarusian school can you advise a teacher from Great Britain to use in British school?

I suppose studying at school is the same around the world. There is little difference between schools from different parts of the world. I am convinced that we get better education in Belarus. We study subjects at a more profound level but we are rarely taught how to put our ideas into practice. They know less than we do, but they are more creative when they use the little knowledge they have. Our educational systems are different. It is rather difficult to decide what should be done away.

4. What advice can you give a British teenager if he/she wants to be a success at an exam?

Some say that an exam is a lottery, but I am sure any exam calls for thorough preparation whether you believe in a lucky card or not. First of all, make sure that you have all the questions which may be asked or, to say the least, you have the recommended text book. Do your best to go through any topic which may be brought up by your examiner. Last but not least, have an early night before your exam. Who knows what a problem you might run up against during your examination.
