Разбираем тему Let’s talk about life in the city or in the country

1. Let’s talk about different types of houses. Tell me about the house/flat you live in.

We live in an ordinary flat which can be found all over the country. There are two rooms in our flat. My parents want me to grow a responsible person so I have my own room. My friends think that I am a lucky person since it is spacious enough, but they forget that I have to look after it as well. Having your own room means cleaning it and putting away clothes and all my other belongings. Keeping the room neat and tidy is not an easy thing to do. As for my parents, my mum tends to spend most of her time in the kitchen which is equipped with all utensils. My father is literary glued to our HDTV. He is obsessed with the news. The place where I live is nothing special in any way.

2. Where would you like to live: in the city or in the country? Why?

I don’t like meeting loads of people. I’d rather be on my own. I want to be a software engineer. This profession allows living far away without having to commute to and from work. It’s a small wonder that my choice is to live neither in the country nor in town. I’d prefer to live in the suburbs of a town. It is rather convenient. There are fewer people living on the outskirts of towns compared to those from the centre. Ecological situation is a little bit better at least there are many more trees around.

3. Ask me what my flat/house looks like.

What type of accommodation do you have? What modern facilities do you have at home?

4. Your friend doesn’t know what to choose to live in a city or in the country. Give him/her some advice.

If my friend is an outgoing person who likes being in the center of attention I’d definitely advise him to live in a big city. Those who are less ambitious and are in favour of living in a stress free way would be recommended to live in the country. Many people work via the Internet, thus living in a remote area doesn’t lead to having a badly paid job. One should leave in the way which makes him happy. Being a resident of a prestigious area may make others envy but if you are unhappy nothing will make up for it.

5. How do you see an ideal flat/house?

Many people like different things and I’ll tell you how I see an ideal apartment. Living in a big house has some advantages but I am afraid that disadvantages can easily outweigh the good things about it. Cleaning a big house takes quite a lot of time. Your place of living should be spacious enough but the bigger house you have  the more housework you will have to do. A tiny cave is not an option and we all need modern conveniences but I firmly believe that the simpler the better. Central heating, electricity and running hot and cold water are the things we really need. Some say that access to the Internet is one the basic needs of a human being but I suppose it is not of vital importance.

Переходим к дополнительным вопросам по теме Let’s talk about life in the city or in the country

1. Small towns are quite comfortable places for living. Do you agree?

I think it is true. Big cities are overcrowded and noisy. Villages have very little to offer. Small towns look like a reasonable compromise better ecology and more entertainments. Many people living in big cities try to move to suburbs and commute to work from there.

Period and modern houses are very different. Give advice what house to choose.

My choice is to live in a modern house. It is more economical to run and better equipped. As for me, period houses are for boasting about, not living in. Period houses always need fixing since they were built long ago.

A man’s house is the reflection of his personality. Do you agree with this?

To some extent, it is right, when we talk about doing up houses. The way people decorate their houses reflects their personality. Calm people pant the walls blue, whereas aggressive ones are in favour of red and orange.
