Список изучаемых пар слов

В этой публикации мы забираем разницу в значении таких пары слов как: childish ― childlike, co-operate — collaborate, technological ― technical, uninterested ― disinterested, misused ― disused. В предлагаемых упражнениях слова даны белым цветом и видны при выделении.

Разница между childish и childlike.

Теория:
You say that someone is childish if you think they are behaving in a silly or immature way.
You describe someone’s voice or appearance as childlike when it seems like that of a child.
Практика:
1.How very childish of her to refuse to speak to me!
2.I’ve had enough of your childish pranks.
3.Her voice was fresh and childlike.
4.She looked at me with her big, childlike eyes.
5.»Stop this childish nonsense at once!» he shouted furiously.
6.All her life she had a childlike trust in other people.

Разница между co-operate и collaborate.

Теория:
When people collaborate on a project, they work together in order to produce something.
When people co-operate , they help each other. If you co-operate with someone who asks for your help, you help them.
Практика:
1.Two writers collaborated on the script for the film.
2.I find it very hard to dress my two-year-old when she refuses to cooperate.
3.He agreed to co-operate with the police investigation…
4.A German company collaborated with a Swiss firm to develop the product.
5.The British and Italian police collaborated in catching the terrorists.
6.The plan failed because the soldiers refused to co-operate.

Разница между technological и technical.

Теория:
Technological means relating to or associated with technology.
Technical means involving the sorts of machines, processes, and materials that are used in industry, transport, and communications.
Практика:
1.Technological advances in computing and telecommunications will reduce the need for many people to travel to work.
2.Before she could begin the project she had to work her way through the huge amount of technical papers
3.The course aims to equip people with the skills necessary for a job in this technological age.
4.It’s very short-sighted of the government not to invest in technological research.
5.The instruction booklet is written in very technical language which is almost impossible to understand.
6.There are still a few technical problems to be dealt with before the product can be put on sale to the public.

Разница между uninterested и disinterested.

Теория:
If you are uninterested in something or someone, you do not want to know any more about them, because you think they have no special or exciting qualities.
You use disinterested to describe someone who is not involved in a situation and can therefore make fair decisions or judgements about it.
Практика:
1.I was so uninterested in the result that I didn’t even bother to look at it.
2.I think we need the opinions of a few disinterested observers.
3.A lawyer should provide disinterested advice.
4.It’s a pity that so many people are uninterested in science at school.
5.Morris appeared to be completely uninterested in any of the suggestions I made.
6.A disinterested third party mediated the dispute.

Разница между disused и misused.

Теория:
A disused place or building is no longer used for its original purpose and is now empty.
When something is misused , it is used in a wrong or careless way.
Практика:
1.The sculpture was stored in a disused lorry factory.
2.He wanted to prevent science from being misused.
3.In some cases pesticides are deliberately misused.
4.They and their disused railway lines remind us of wealth in the last century — but unemployment during the last 50 years.
5.Valleys in the Yorkshire Dales are scattered with dozens of these field barns, virtually all disused.
6.Even harmless drugs can be misused.

Пары слов как childish — childlike и technical-technological ,по моему мнению, могут представлять интерес для готовящихся к сдаче централизованного тестирования (ЦТ) по английскому языку.
