The first thing I’d like to highlight is that the choice of a job is a thing of utmost importance since it is thought to predefine if not a whole life but a substantial part of it. Our society is a rather conservative one and we are brought up with the belief that a job is for life. Any further changes are seen as a sign of being immature. One of the proverbs which may describe the attitude of the Belorussian’s to the thing mentioned above goes as follows Let well alone. It implies the idea that changes are a good thing when the situation is bad and there is no way out of it apart from seeking fortune in a completely different place. Some like to say На одном месте и камень обрастает. They meant to express the idea that success is gained little by little. The genuine meaning of the proverb is revealed when we have a look at its English equivalent — If you rest, you rust. The wisdom of the previous generations is a priceless treasure if you don’t distort it.
To sum up, it’s clear why the young tend to choose a profession not according to their strengths and weaknesses but the so called financial stability. In some sever cases a talented painter may end up having to deal with the tedious world of accounting.
