Сочинение по теме When I think of Great Britain, I think of…

Unfortunately, I have never been to GB, so everything I know about this country is gained by reading different books. Though due to technological advances such as the Internet and live web cam broadcast it is possible to have a closer look at different places of interest, my knowledge of the country was heavily influenced by books. Some 10 years ago modern novelties mentioned above were rare and paying a visit to a local library was the only option available. Being a romantic sort of a person I started reading novels written by W. Scott. I fell in love with his books almost immediately. You know… mountainous scenery, proud and honest people and of course fighting for freedom and independence. As you can easily guess Scotland stands out for me when the subject of GB is brought up for discussion. When I think of Scotland, the first thing to talk about is Edinburgh castle. It was built on the top of the volcanic Castle Rock. As one of the most important fortresses in the Kingdom of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle was involved in many historical conflicts, from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and has been besieged, both successfully and unsuccessfully, on several occasions. The castle has become a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh, and of Scotland. It appears, in a stylized form, on the coats of arms of the City of Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh. Edinburgh Castle remains the most popular paid visitor attraction in Scotland. Apart from the castle there are many other places to visit in Scotland, whatever your interest. Tourist attractions in Scotland include charming castles and country houses, fascinating museums and friendly wildlife parks. But there are also other things to see in Scotland which include visiting the stunning variety of hills and lochs and maybe even the Loch Ness Monster, Nessie! I am not sure whether it exists or not, but why not to give it a try or simply look out for local wildlife during a quiet stroll or cycle along one of the national cycle routes…
